Dear Members

Some members would be aware of recent reporting in the Australian Financial Review concerning Qld Branch Secretary Phil Hughes.

Your Union understands that Queensland Police have charged Mr Hughes with offences that relate to his actions as a private individual.

Those matters are currently before the courts. We respect the role of the court and do not wish to pre-judge the outcome or prejudice the court process.

However, your Union is treating this matter very seriously and will be following proceedings closely.

Our organisation has no tolerance for illegal conduct and will decide on any appropriate actions in relation to Mr Hughes and his position with the Union once the judicial process has concluded.

Mr Hughes is currently on extended unpaid leave from his position and your Branch Committee of Management have taken appropriate steps to ensure members continue to enjoy the highest level of protection, support and representation from their Union during this process.

If you require any further information on the above, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours faithfully,

Cameron Bird

Acting Branch Secretary
